Next Season Payroll Date/

<TABLE class=tborder id=post1316002 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD class=alt1 id=td_post_1316002>Hi guys. I posted this in the wrong forum and for that I apologize.

I am new to the forum but a devoted OOTP customer and 6.5 user and also in an online league. I have some newbie questions for Markus or others that may or may not have been answered. Any help guys would be appreciated.

1. How is money for Free Agency created? I think I know the formula but I will give you my numbers. 2006 revenue was 90,0000. This years (2007) payroll is 81,000,000 barring any trades or releases picked up in waivers. I have 9,000,000 cash on hand and 18,000,000 right now for FA. There are many discrepancies in our league and misunderstandings on the official calculation method. The league cap is 90,000,000 Isn't it last years revenue (2007) - next years (2008) payroll? Then add to cash on hand?

How do I calculate how much I will have additionally to FA money after this (2007) season expecting a profit this year. My team interest is a 91 and I lead the league in wins at 67-22 at the break so I will make at least the 90,000,000 I did last year or more. I am looking at how much I will have for FA after this season for the offseason going into 2008.

2. A player is in his 5th year and is the contract says arbitration eligible. He will hit his 6 year mark before this season is over and his loyalty is minimal making him a RFA. But, in our league the RFA's are marked before the previous season. An owner of the above mentioned player says his loyalty wasn't minimal before the season but right now at the All Star break it is minimal. Is it possible at all for a players loyalty to change during the course of a season? I have never seen that before.

Please anwer these questions for me guys. Thanks.

</TD><TD class=alt1 id=td_post_1316239><!-- message -->Also, what is the cutoff day that the AI uses to base the next season's payroll?

Example: After the last game of the World Series a team has 83,000,000 in payroll going into the 2007 offseason and free agency. Is there a grace period before the computer finalizes 2008 the payroll it uses for the formula?

Asking this, can you deduct payroll (waivers, trades) after the 2007 season to affect the 2008 payroll that the computer uses before FA or do you have to do it before the end of the 2007 season and what is the date?

Thanks guys. Please help on this as many guys in the league have different theories on this and the Loyalty "changing" to minimal during the season debate.

I have never seen a player change loyalty in the middle of a season although it might be possible. Either way, don't count on it.

Payroll is dynamic and is never finalized. It constantly changes throughout the year depending on roster moves. If you sign a free agent at the half way point in a season for 600k, that 600k is added to the payroll.

Keep in mind though, that you are only responsible for 300k because players are payed on a day by day basis. You only pay him for half a season's worth of work.

The total amount that you pay during the course of the year is visible in the Player Expenses Section.

Thanks bro for the reply. I understand what you said. But, what I'm asking is after a season (2007) is over and you are going into the FA period (2008) I am looking to drop payroll and if I can't trade I will put the players on waivers.

So, obviously that reflects on my payroll (2008). How does this reflect on how much additional money I will have for 2008 FA. I know the formula is: Revenue previous year (2007)-payroll for the next year (2008) for FA.

Can you see what I am getting at? If I waive these players and somebody picks them up I should have more money generated for FA because stated above. And does the computer automatically use the day after the season to dictate how much you generated or if I waive those players later it will be a revolving payroll reflected to revenue and FA money?

Also, the payroll cap is 90 million in our league. If I sign a FA and my payroll goes above 90 million does the computer allow you past the 90 million cap until opening day. I could then trade/waive/cut the players then to get under the cap after I signed the FAs.

I look forward to your experience and replies. Thanks sfgiant.

Intuitively, payroll should be calculated right before the rollover to the following season. However, this shouldn't enter into your calculations because the payroll (in the formula its called "salary of players on team" is for your current year (2008) So, yes, the payroll is revolving.

$$ left = [Last year Merchandising revenue + Last year Gate revenue + This year TV contract + Cash] - [salary of players on the team + salary of players that have a contract offer + salary of coaches]

Hmm, I've never been in that situation since I don't play with a salary cap. I'm not sure what, if any, mechanisms the game engine has for forcing teams below the salary cap. However, I have seen players over the salary cap during free agency. They just aren't allowed to sign any Free Agents (I think). I would appreciate if someone with more knowledge in this area could answer your question better than I have.
