spring training (talent increase or ratings increase?)

I've tried doing a search but it appears the search function is still being rebuilt.

If you add spring training points to a player (and he improves), does talent increase or do actual ratings increase?

Thanks

Talent increases are usually reflected in the Player Development report.

When it says something like "So and so has developed a habit of striking out more!" It usually means his talent at Avoid Ks has dropped, for example.

In my experience, those drops are significant. Most times, on a 100 point scale, notations in that report indicate a drop or gain of 15-20 points.

It seems like all spring training changes are recorded in the Player Developement Report. That seems to lead the the conclusion that all changes are to the talent rather than the actual ratings. Is that correct?

That's a good question. I didn't think that talent changed that much, but I can double check that. (It's not too hard - note the ratings/talent before spring and after spring, and then compare with report.)

My thought was that Player Development showed changes in talent. Apart from that, ratings may change and not be noted anywhere.

Spring Training changes are actual ratings.

Random (?) talent changes may coincide with Spring Training, I suppose, but I haven't seen this happen often, if at all. My impression is that talent changes are on hold between Proceed to Next and the beginning of the regular season.

the vast majority of results you see on the development page after spring training are actual ratings changes. however, talent changes do occur, not as often but it's by no means a strange occurance. no way to tell without using a utility or comparing before and after. Although the wording for talent changes is the same as it is throughout the season so you can notice that way as well. ST is the only time ratings changes will be reflected in player development.
