hitter type
I couldn't find this dicussed elsewhere. I'm trying to find out the affect of hitter type as it applies to stadium effects. for instance, lets say you have a home park that has a short fence in right field, and the HR rating for lefties is correspondingly higher. Will lefty pull hitters still get that ratings boost even though theyre going in the other direction? And would righty pull hitters then get a boost since they're trying to swing for that shortened fence?

Hmm, I don't think the two are specifically tied together, although the park does impact hitting.
I believe when a ball is hit (say a deep fly to left), the game calculates the trajectory and decides where it will land. It then uses the park data to decide whether that is in or out of the park. So, the park's impact is the same whether it's a light-hitting pitcher who pops one, or your big righty slugger. But, over the course of a season, a big righty slugger pull hitter should hit more home runs to left in a park with a short left field than he would in a different park with a deep left. I would also assume that if you had nearly identical power hitters, with one being "pull" and the other being "spray", the "pull" hitter would hit more homers to left. But, I think you'd have to go over many seasons to make it really noticeable statistically, is my guess. |
