Australian NRL Grand Final

This comes a little late, as the match was played Sunday but only showed here on FSC early this morning:

Congrats to the Wests Tigers as they beat the North Queensland Cowboys 30-16. It was a very entertaining match. It featured one of the great performances I've seen, as Wests' Pat Richards tore ankle ligaments in last week's playoff win and was thought to be done for the season. But he not only played, but paired with Benji Marshall to score a spectacular 97 meter try on a kick return.

I hope my South Sydney Rabbitohs can do better than a 13th place finish next year.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

Damn, I thought I was the only one on here who talked about rugby league. If you'll remember, I had a thread going about my team, the Wests Tigers before the crash. Five days later, I'm still amazed that they are the Champions.

I really hope the Rabbitohs can make the playoffs next year. I'd love to see the traditional Sydney teams dominate the competition for the next few years, and a Tigers-Rabbitohs grand final next year would be the ultimate, IMO.

I would happily stay up until 4am watching that grand final. For this one, I watched the first half, then taped the rest while I slept.

Good to see that a big Tigers fan is on the board. I wasn't able to follow the NRL all season, but weren't the Tigers floundering way back in the standings through 15 games?

Indeed. They were 6-8 before going on an insane 8 match winning streak, which included a 54-2 demolition of the defending premiers, a 34 point second half blitz of the Sharks (46-6) and a 49-24 victory over Manly. They were also down 14-0 at half-time against the Raiders in Canberra before fighting back to win 22-14.

They finished 4th with a 14-10 record. In the playoffs, they did this:

Qualifying Final: defeated the Cowboys 50-6
Semi Final: defeated the Broncos 34-6
Preliminary Final: defeated the Dragons 20-12
Grand Final: defeated the Cowboys 30-16

(After losing to the Tigers in the first week, the Cowboys defeated Melbourne 28-16 and the minor premiers Parramatta 29-0 to make the Grand Final).

Oh, yeah. I am well aware of the website. It was tough to keep from going there to see the Grand Final result, as I wouldn't be able to see it for 4 days.

I saw the Prelim Final match last week. Good match.

Hey, Bb, what is your connection with Australia? Were you born here? Do you have family here? Just wondering.

P.S. Did you know that the actor Russell Crowe is a Rabbitohs fan?

I have actually no connection to Australia, other than thinking it would be a helluva place to visit and that I used to have a friend from there. I just started watching a few of the ARL games on FOX Sports World whenever they showed them and really enjoyed it. Then I never got to see any games because nobody would show them here in the states and now that Fox Soccer Channel is showing them each week I get to see it again.

Is it the Rabbitohs that Crowe is trying to buy?

Cool. I always thought that you guys in America knew more about Aussie Rules than Rugby League. You are obviously one of the exceptions, and a wise one at that.

That story about Crowe being interested in buying the Rabbitohs was just a rumour. Crowe himself stuck a pin in it when he was over here at the time and said he had no interest in buying the club. He actually said it would be a bad investment. But he's still a huge fan.

I can't really get into the Aussie Rules football.... maybe I will give it another try, they have a highlight show on Fox Soccer Channel. It took me awhile to finally start getting the intricacies of NRL rules. I remember I had gotten a World Cup Rugby game years ago for my Sega Genesis. I would like to check out EA Sports' 2005 rugby game, but the local places don't have it. So when does the next NRL season begin?

The season usually begins around mid-March. There is an NRL PlayStation 2 game, but I don't know if it's available in the States or not.

IMO, I'd suggest not bothering with the Aussie Rules.
