New Opening Day Roster File

I'm "updating" Toadfreak's Opening Day roster file for 6.5a. I'm getting close to completing it. I want to have it done by the end of the All-Star break (Wednesday night). This is what I've done:
  • Updating the Top 100 or so hitters and pitchers. All ratings will be adjusted and HT/WT updated based on this year inlcuding L/R splits. (I'm taking this year into account with players like Derek Lee and Brian Roberts so they'll perform somewhat like this year but keeping their previous history in mind. Also, Jason Giambi, Todd Helton and Jim Thome have been brought back to earth)
  • Every contract is accurate. (A-Rod and other players who had parts of their contract picked up by their previous team have been adjusted so only the portion their current team is paying is included)
  • Added accurate National TV money and (from what I could find) local media money.
  • Team markets, fan loyalty and fan interest have been adjusted. (Actual attendance should be very close to RL attendance for this year)
  • Teams like the White Sox, Orioles and Nationals have been edited to contend this year.
  • Team strategies will be edited to reflect their current manager.
  • League totals will be adjusted to reflect RL pace of MLB at the All-Star break.
I plan on doing as many of the top prospects and rookies as I can. I have the Baseball America Prospect Handbook and I'd love to do the Top 30 for every team, but time is going to limit it to the Top 3-5. Which guys from your organization are, based on local info and this year's performance, the Top 3-5 for your team?

I'd also like input on any players that aren't usually included in most roster sets that should be or players whose arm/range, speed/stealing/running or velocity ratings need to be "tweaked".

Thanks for the help and I look forward to everyone's feedback once it is through.

For the roster police, Toadfreak said he was ok with this a few months back when I first thought about it.

Great idea. I thought about doing this, but I am way too lazy, so I'm glad you are up for the challenge. I'm a big Tribe fan, and we have a pretty deep system. Not including Grady Sizemore, our top prospects are probably Michael Aubrey, Adam Miller, Jeremy Sowers, Fausto Carmona, Brad Snyder, and Franklin Gutierrez.

One thing you might look at...I play with TF's roster set, and I notice a lot of the catchers have extremely low arm ratings (55-60ish), and any baserunner with 50 speed or higher seems to be able to swipe a bag from them at least 80% of the time. While some catchers do give up insane percentages, some of the guys deserve a bit more of an arm. Oh, and go easy on Todd Helton...he's definitely having an off year, NOT declining!

Good luck, and I look forward to your tweaked roster set!

I think the new steroid policy "may" have something to do with some of the guys HRs declining. I'm not taking all their power away but definately reducing it.

As I'm going over the prospects, it looks like Toadfreak did a real good job with them. I may not touch them much unless I get alot of feedback about a certain guy being severely over/under rated.

I'll use the time to get the Major Leaguers as close as I can.

Even though he's a 4 star prospect, Hunter Pence could use a boost. Here are his minor-league stats. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/a...ilb&pid=452254

I'd love to see you edit the ratings down a few notches in general. If you do some quick searches of different ratings levels in the roster set included with OOTP 6.5, you'll see that Toadfreak's has many more high level (i.e. 70/70/70 pitchers) than the set. Although it isn't as drastic as in Halofan's set, I think it skews performance because it drives up the average rating (which then becomes a more average performance) and very high guys (80/80/80) are also closer to the average. Also, I use both Halofan and Toadfreak so sometimes I get confused between the two, but you should do a scan of the minor leagues and knock down any career minor leaguers with good ratings. It really takes the challenge out of the game when you choose to play a rebuilding team and then realize you've got 4 or 5 guys in AAA that can start in the big leagues.

well remember that toadfreaks' set is my set, he just made ratings according to what he felt. My set is and hasnt been made based on my oppinion in quite some time.

either way, good luck with your endeavor, just dont do what 98% of roster creators do and make one set and then disappear and give credit to who deserves it

Question

This is a great idea, So will every teams money for free agents (during first season) be more close to real life, like A's not have as much as the yankees or cubs?

98%? Mike, you and I and Doc and Gambo are all still active and the four of us by ourselves make up a lot more than 2% of the roster makers.

as for the money that teams have, i would LOVE for someone on this board or any other board to provide me with exacts as far as finances are concerned for major league teams
