Triple Crown

With all the talk about Derrek Lee and the triple crown this season, I'd like to point out that Albert Pujols is second in BA, third in HR, and second in RBI as of July 5th.

He probably won't win all three, but I like his odds in each category. Sure, he's 31 points behind Derrek Lee in BA, but we're talking about a career .335 hitter chasing a career .275 hitter. He's only four RBI behind Carlos Lee, so you'd have to give him a very good shot there in the second half. He's four homers behind Jones, and that'll be tough, but hardly overwhelming.

He's got a better shot than Derrek Lee, anyway.

Yeah, I'd give Pujols a better shot than Lee.

It's pretty tough though with 16 teams in a league.

Lees shoulder is hurting from what i hear, an he may miss some time. That would certainly affect his triple crown chances. So i'd lean towards Pujols.

Actually, I think an injury helps Lee's chances of winning the batting title. Fewer AB's mean fewer chances to bring down his average.

Yes but those shoulder injuries affect your swing negatively, from what I've heard.

BP rated Albert as having a higher chance a week or two ago.

And fewer chances of hitting home runs and knocking in runs, so it definitely hurts his chance of winning the Triple Crown overall.

Right, it will help preserve his batting average, but the two other parts to the triple crown will suffer, Homeruns and RBI's.

MRI is negative, will miss a few games, nothing significant. Will miss today, might be back tomorrow. Will not participate in the HR derby, All-Star game is another story.
