Evaluating engine settings

I'm starting to play around with engine settings (league totals, creation modifiers, development modifers, park effects, etc.) for the fictional league I intend to start in career mode for the deadball era. I figure that I need to create a bunch of fictional players and then sim some seasons using different settings until I converge toward reasonable settings. What methods do people use to quickly setup such experiments and then evaluate the results? I haven't been happy with my efficiency to date so I'm hoping that others can share their best practices.

I have been through this as well and frankly, what you describe seems to be the best way. It is tedious work, but you will be happy with the end result once you figure out what that result needs to be.

I'm just going through the same. I began two month ago and I'm ready to finally start my fictional league next week .

Just make sure when you do these test sims to keep track of the results so you can change certain settings at your will. Of every "test league" I ran I kept a word chart with the most significant results so I could see later on which settings might work best for me.
