F1 - Mosely - Can this guy be any more full of himself?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8319087

What an interesting interview... I'm wondering if he's talking out of sheer bravado, or if he really thinks that highly of himself. Maybe he should be forced out of the scene...

You realize that as head of FIA, F1 is a small part of what he oversees?

Secondly, keep in mind that he and Bernie were the chief leaders of FOCA during the FISA-FOCA war who managed to convince Ferrari and FISA president Belestre to accept the Concorde agreement.

I'm not saying his big head is justified, but F1 wouldn't exist if it weren't for he and Bernie. If it had somehow survived the FISA-FOCA war, and Ferrari joining CART, it would have probably died after Senna's death.

Edit: Also, GPWC will not happen. F1 won't survive without Ferrari, and the other team principals know this.

Seems absurd to discipline the teams for what happened. They were told in pretty clear terms by their tyre supplier that if they ran on those tyres, the tyres would explode and cars would go crashing into the barrier at high speed.

What else could they do, but not run in the race? Irrespective of the whys and wherefores of the other options (chicane, lower speeds etc.), the F1 teams could not have run the race as it was on the tyres they had without risking serious injury to the drivers.

His comment that the teams overstated the tyre problem was also ridiculous. They were baseing their decisions wholly on clear information coming from Michelin.

Almost everything that's happening in F1 this season off the track (and sometimes on it) is tainted with the power struggle between FIA/Ferrari and the other teams. While I agree with Jason that a split would be unlikely because of the global power and popularity of Ferrari, it's also in Ferrari's interests for the current F1 to remain, so I expect some bending towards a compromise over the coming months.

Edit: Maybe 'expect' is a little optimistic.

And at one time people couldn't fathom a split of the CART championship series either. Clearly the #1 racing sport in NA at the time - and look what has happened to it now....

And I agree ed... I don't see how the drivers were supposed to race on that rubber as well. What would have happened had someone severely injured or killed themselves on the circuit? How would F1 had looked then? And telling team to abnormally break around a corner to slow down? That's just as dangerous. Drivers are creatures of habit, and they trust other drivers to do what they themselves would do. Can you imagine what would happen on that corner when a Michelin driver suddenly checks up with a pile of traffic in behind? Could have lead to more than a few wrecks.

F1 has already attempted to split, which is why the Concorde Agreement exists. Unless they find a Tony George who is willing to lose lots and lots of money in order to make a point (and build his ego) I don't see GPWC happening. The last time they attempted to start a GPWC-like series, they ran exactly one race before realizing no one cared about a grand prix that didn't include all the historical teams.
