Who declared himself for the NBA draft

I almost gagged at dinner tonight when the local Raleigh NBC affiliate announced on the evening news that Shav Randolph has declared himself eligible for the NBA draft. Hell, if Shav Randolph can do it, I think I'll declare next week and get myself a big contract too. Has a worse player ever come out early? I know some high school guys have, but can't think of a college player that bad doing it.

It seems he's just messing around, and will go back to school.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in the release that he supported Randolph "100%."
Even Coach K doesn't mind losing him. No way Coach K (or anyone of sound mind) thinks Randolph is ready for the pros. And I wonder if he doesn't intend to actually go pro why the heck decalre for it? This all makes about as much sense as Randolph's awful play despite the high credentials he had coming in.

His intent is to give himself two chances at getting someone interested enough to draft him. He's taking an opportunity to go the pre draft camp and hoping he has a nice week and he intrigues somebody enough to get picked. If he has a good week and gets the scouts talking about him, he'll go. He knows he hasn't lived up to his hype and if he has another bad season his senior year he's got no chance, so he's increasing his odds by giving himself more than one opportunity to impress somebody.

Roger Powell did something similar to this last year. He threw his name out there to try and get an invite to a pre-draft camp and, therefore, get an idea of what NBA scouts did and didn't like about his game. He had no plans to actually enter the draft, just wanted to get an idea of where he stood.

There was that obnoxious ballhog guard at Georgetown a couple years after Allen Iverson that left early and got frozen out. I can't remember his name, but I remember him being a lightning rod example of why not everyone should leave school early.

Victor Page, I believe.

Julius Page. And I think he was from Pitt. Unless you're talking about someone else.

Wrong player, but similar story. He went undrafted, but, wasn't he a senior anyway?

Well, I apologize, since I was wrong. Never even heard of Victor Page. Guess it really was the wrong decision to go pro then.

Yeah, Victor Page was the guy. He was just massively cocky and had a single skill. All he could do was attempt shots, and he wasn't particularly good at making them so the numbers were fairly empty at Georgetown.

I haven't played organized basketball since 8th grade, but I want to declare myself eligible for the draft. I have finished my junior year of college and I feel I am ready to get paid handsomely to sit at the end of an NBA bench. How can I do this?

Should I just create a press release and send it to ESPN to see if they'll make a story of it?

Yeah, you're just selling yourself wrong. You need to start up a basketball league filled entirely with challenged kids from a local group home and yourself. As long as you average 40+ ppg with 15 rpg and 8 blocked shots no one cares about the competition. The 0 assists might look strange though, so make sure to bounce in a few off of a kid's head. Those stats, along with a few heavily edited video clips of your performances, should be enough to get you a mid 2nd round spot.

To add on, if you're like 7 feet tall, white, and uncoordinated, that should help your chances immensely.

Man, those were some horrid uni's the Pistons were sporting in those days. Of course, it doesn't help that it is being modeled by Montross.
