6.5 Single Player

I love OOTP but mostly play in online leagues; I haven't been able to get into a single player league for a long time. I've always found it difficult to "suspend my disbelief", so to speak, since I'd find top prospects in waivers and could trade a few scrubs for them anyways. Everytime I'd start to get into a league I'd take a look at the waiver page and suddenly lose interest.

6.5, however, looks promising. I'm wondering what you guys think about single player with the improvements. Is it more realistic? More difficult? I personally don't use house rules because it feels like too much of an abstraction if I'm adding my own rules on top of the system of rules that is the game. Will someone that's competitive in good online leagues be able to enjoy single player mode without imposing their own rules?
