I wish in OOTP4 you could send your pitching coach out to the mound to talk to your pitcher. the pitcher would tell the PC how he feels, then the PC gives you advise on what to do. This could be reflected in the PC's ratings and the pitchers age. If you have a young pitcher and a crappy PC, chances are he will say to leave him in, and the guy might get shelled. But as the BRaves you could send Mazoni out to talk toi Maddux and feel pretty confident following his advise. Just a thought.
You could also have hitting coaches suggestiong who to pinch hit. |

Pitcher: Arm feels great!
Catcher: He's got good stuff!

I forget, but wasn't there something similar to this in Tony3 as well?

This is a great idea and wouldn't be hard to program.
And Earl Weaver Baseball ruled.

Seeing the pitchers' name turn red is warning enough..and the fact you don't have to 'warm-up' your reliever seems to work.

I got to thinking about it after playing a game in which I was ejected.
You can argue calls, which really accomplishes nothing, so I figured this might be a good idea. Makes the pitching coach much more important. Yea the pitchers name turns red, but I figured that was just common knowledge. He's given up six runs and only recorded 1 out, so he's done. But if a guy has pitched 4.1 innings, given up just one run, but has the bases loaded, you might want to talk to him. I personally will not take out a starter before the 6th inning unless he is getting destroyed. But in a situation like this, I might want to know how he feels. If he doesn't feel good or the PC thinks he should get out, then I'll pull him before the next batter gets a hit. But if he feels good, I might try to get a double play for the next batter and just ride it out. Just offering a suggestion which might make an already deep as hell game a little deeper. I want this game to be an as realistic managing simulator/GM simulator as possible. -V |

This raises the question: Is there really a huge discontinuity in OOTP when a pitcher goes red? Or is this just an arbitrary marking point along a continuous fatigue process?
In practice, it's hard not to feel sinned against by pitcher fatigue. My subjective impression is that my guys get hammered when they try to pitch having gone red; but I wish I could count the number of extra inning games in which my guys couldn't scratch out a run against someone whose arm probably couldn't have been hanging on by more than a tendon. |

I've started to not pull a red pitcher right away all the time. I wish the CPU would do so also. I hate the strict adherence to the so many pitches in 5 days rule, especially with relievers.
I've had red pitchers pitch another inning, and in cases of rain delay, I had a guy go another 4 innings and only give up 3 hits and a run.

I would like to see this too. They had something like this in FPS 98. It could also be used as a chance to get a reliever warmed up. ie.a visit is as long as an at bat, so the reliever gets warmed up one batter quicker. Also maybe to calm down a guy who has given up two quick bombs or something

From my understanding, this was a problem in OOTP3, that the AI would never warm up pitchers or something. Maybe if they ever get into a very heavy engine re-write, this will be fixed. I really think that bullpen warm up is neccessary in ANY management sim. |

I don't know that this has any bearing but even before the pitchers name turns red you can see decreased velocity on his fastball a good bit before hand. I don't feel that the game has the pitcher at full strength and then BAM, now he is out of gas.
I would definately like something like the ole "ask Earl". And having the ability to visit the mound would be nice as well. Depending on how it was implemented. |

Me too. Mostly in the pitchers first start(of the 5 game stretch) he isn't hit hard. But in the second start, when he is red, the he is more likely to get bombed!!!
