Super 2B/3B/P prospect...what should I do?
Well, now that 6.5 has been released, I finally started my solo fictional league that's been sitting ready for about a week now. I'm about a month into the season, and I have two 5-star super prospects sitting in my minors, both in Double-A.
One of them, Joseph Hines, is an 18 year old 2B/3B prospect, ranked 4th in the league. Right now he's 4/3/5 in ratings and 7/7/8 in talent. I'm thinking that those aren't GREAT ratings, but still good. Then...I look down a bit and realize I completely missed the fact that he has amazing talent ratings in PITCHING. 10/8/5. His actual ratings are 5/6/3. Now, I'm faced with a dilemna. The kid is hitting .323/.416/.489 with 5 homers so far in 36 games. As a pitcher, he only has an endurance of 2 (1-5 scale). Now, it looks like it might be worth the time to make him a pitcher IF he can get his endurance up to 3. A superstar reliever isnt worth giving up making him a great (but not HoF worthy) 2nd Baseman. But a starter with 10 stuff for talent...it might be worth it. What should I do? Should I try and convert him to a starter, or leave him be as a position player? If so...how? Do I stick him out there as a starter with only a 2, or do I leave him as a reliever now? Or would I use him as a hitter this year and try over spring training to up his endurance? It boggles the mind! |

Anyway, try him out as a starter but be sure to improve his endurance in ST. If you don't have a DH, then you'll have an extra bat in the lineup.

Hopefully you don't have a DH rule.
Pitching is always harder to come by. Make him pitch as long his endurance is good. |

I'd keep him as a fielder. He's a reliever at best and there are many of those available in baseball.

I'd keep him as a fielder too. Even if he starts, hes gunna give up a ton of home runs with that 5 movement rating (i assume that the last one is movement) That's assuming he achieves his talent.

I think I'm going to lean towards the position player deal for now unless he takes any sudden hikes or drops in talent somewhere.
Question, though. I've seen the rare pitcher/position player combo on other teams but never had one myself. Will I be able to use him as Brooks Kieschnik (sp) with the Brewers, throwing him out there as a player and switching him over to pitch midgame? If so...that'd be pretty sweet. I like the idea of going 4 for 4 in a game then coming in to close it out.
