Nicknames?
I noticed that OOTP6.5 seems to have a lot of new nicknames. If true, that's pretty awesome. Am I the only one seeing this?

My Nickname Generation Kit will be uploaded to Joe Rock and Halofan either tomorrow or Saturday. It will add some nickname options to the game.

Here's the readme:
MALLEUS DEI'S OOTP NICKNAME GENERATION KIT 1.0 INSTALLATION If you have upgraded to OOTP 6.5 (and if not, do it now, 6.5 rocks!) then you already have the nicknames in the nicknames.dat included in this zip in your existing OOTP6.5 nicknames.dat file (Markus added them on to the 6.12 nicknames.dat file). If you have an earlier version of OOTP, or if you want to just use this set of nicknames, then extract the contents of of this zip file into your OOTP /data subdirectory, overwriting the existing nicknames.dat file. If you just want better nicknames to be randomly installed by OOTP, that's all that you ever have to do. Easy, huh? But...if you want to assign nicknames personally, then read on. WHY Since I didn't really like any of the existing nickname files that I had seen for OOTP, I went ahead and complied my own over a long period of time. I started with the nicknames of my own former teammates and went on from there, adding the nicknames of other people I have known, seen, or heard of. (If you think you see a lot of old USMC/USN nicknames in there your eyes are not deceiving you.) From a list of ~2000 nicknames I carefully pared the list down to 1000. Why 1000? Because if you want to assign nicknames yourself to players, you can now do it easily and randomly using dice. HOW OOTP6 assigns just a couple of nicknames per 40-man team. Personally, I like to have more. This is how I do it. 1. Print off a copy of nicknames.pdf (it's now in your OOTP /data subdirectory, where you extracted it to) for each league. Label each page of the chart with the league's name. 2. Call up the OOTP roster screen on your computer for each team in order. 3. For each player, in order, on each team, roll a six-sided die. On a roll of 1, the player has a nickname. (If OOTP had already assigned him one, delete/replace it.) 4. For each player with a nickname, roll 3 ten-sided dice of different colors (with each color representing one column of digits). Look up that number (which will range from 001 to 000, where a roll of 000 equals 1000) on the Nickname Chart. Assign the corresponding nickname to that player and mark it through with a pen or pencil to show that it has been assigned). Add a "The" as a nickname prefix if you think it's appropriate ("The Mongoose," "The Octopus," "The Vampire," etc.). If you get a number for a nickname that is already assigned (or if the nickname doesn't fit the name to your satisfaction), then roll again until you get a number for a nickname that isn't in use and that is to your satisfaction. (Remember, it's your league, so do whatever pleases you.) 5. Type in the nickname on the player screen. 6. Move on to the next player and repeat until out of players. When new players are added, check to see if they have nicknames and assign them the same way. Even with a thirty-team league with fifty players on each team this will only result in a quarter of the nicknames on the list being assigned initially (if your league is smaller, you might want to go ahead and assign a nickname on the roll of a 1 or a 2 to each player). You can award a nickname to every player on the team that you manage, like I do. You can also award a nickname to all of the league leaders at the end of a season if you like. It's your game, do it your way. I hope that you enjoy the nickname generation kit. DEDICATION This file is dedicated by The Gunner to his teammates of long ago: Boomer, Scooter, Fuzzy, The Lizard, Smokey, Magoo, Hamburger, Hellbound, Hot Dog, Rusty, Duck, Spooky, Spud, Dixie, Sparrow, Dump Truck, The Midnight Toaster, Stony, Taco, Grave Digger, Chuckles, Flash, The Judge, Blitz, Wolfman, Rocky, Poco, Lurch, Dusty, Spider, Snacks, Tank, Pokey Puppy, The Phantom, Yogi and Boo Boo. DISCLAIMER I make these files available for the public's use only at the public's own risk. I assume no risk or responsibility for any damage or events (or anything else that even the sleaziest lawyer can think of) associated with anyone's use, misuse, or abuse of these files: use is totally at your own risk. If you use these files and your computer explodes, Windows won't boot, OOTP 6.5 will no longer run, your Internet connection goes south, your house is attacked by Formosan Termites, the Braves don't make the playoffs, religious images appear on your bathroom mirrors, unseen creatures from the Dungeon Dimensions drag your family members away screaming in the night, or anything else of any kind goes wrong afterwards, don't bother me about it, because you're on your own, fool.
