Any way for this (Origin generators)
I'm doing a Nebraska League, and I'd like for all of my players to be from Nebraska cities. Can any of the origin generator's data files be modified to do this?
Thanks Brian |

Both of the Originator programs can do this. You would need to edit the data files. You can either create one on your own, or take the current US data and delete all cities but those from Nebraska.

I use Davwm's origin generator -- what's the "other" one? I love the one I use now -- but do have a couple minor quibbles.... For one thing - it's only a one shot deal (i.e., you can only generate for current players.... subsequent ammy draft players don't get specific origins... unless you reset the whole league). If the "other" utility has a way around this, I'd definitely be interested. A side note.... I have to assume there's an origins file somewhere in the OOTP engine itself I could modify/add to - anyone ever try this? The other issue with my current utility is that on rare occasions, it seems to corrupt some names (maybe -- 1 out of every couple hundred players) - I assumed this was probably tied to an issue in the db - but after multiple download/unzips, and even walking through the origin dat files myself, I can't seem to find the bad entries. |

Both of the Originators are done by Davwm the first version only changes the names of the origin, where the second one changes the players name as well as the the player's origin. It also allows you to assign a percentage for each national origin and creates names/origins based on the criteria you set. Both programs can be used in subsequent seasons. I usually run it right before the amateur draft. Export you player general information each year and the program only changes the information for those players that have the default origins (USA, JAPAN, CANADA, etc) Changes made in prior exports/seasons will not be changed. Ahhh
I've got v2 then, as my player names change....
However - when I tried running after ammies were generated - all my player names changed. I must have a an older version.... Time to surf the usual suspects, I guess..... |

I have created originator files for other people, and have created my own wisconsin/minnesota files. What I do it to take the files from the census bureau which lists each city of the state. I put it into excel and modify it to the correct format of the originator dat files. I have a blank .dat file and I cut the data from excel and put it into the dat file and save it as XX_Origin.dat where XX is the state abbreviation. It takes about 20 minutes for me to create these files. If you are using the originator then this will work for you. If you would like to have a nebraska state file then just send me a pm and I can create one for you to use with the originator. You just have to remember to use this each season before the draft to change the names of the players. |
