Incorporating More of Catobase into OOTP

The new patch sounds cool but I still would love to see some simpler things like incorporating more of the features of Catobase into OOTP. This isn't a knock on Catobase, I think it is great. And it would be even better it OOTP did all that stuff for me. The almanac was a nice first step but Catobase has a ton more features so why can't some of them be added? My little plea for the next version of the game

Agreed - having some of the great features and functions of Catobase, as part of the game, would be a wonderful addition.

Ping: Markus (OOTP7 related)

Since OOTP(7) was delayed I think it would be a cool idea to implement a "CATOBASE" feature into the new version of OOTP. What do ya say - is it doable?

Doable? Yes. Probable? No.

I wouldn't see why it isn't probable. I think there is more than enough time to get it done IMO.

If he puts this in, he can have my money right now. My god, this is the one feature that I've been dreaming of since I started playing this game.

I agree this would be a great addition to the game.....The only question is would Cato allow\want this to be added to the game and if he allowed it to be added there is the question of payment towards Cato from Markus.

I can't speak for everyone here but I'd be more than willing to pay an extra $5 if Markus needed to raise the cost to cover paying Cato for his work.

Amen tree. My money now and more if I had to borrow it. No kidding. Joining the rest of my neuroses I have time and again imagined that J Cato is actually under the radar with SI and Markus even now contributing his knowledge toward such an implementation. I'm sure one day it will occur. Maybe not this version, maybe not the next, but maybe - someday - in an expansion pack - yeah.... that'll be a good day. Hope I'm there.

It wouldn't neccesarily need to be Cato's exact implementation, just a similar comprehensive presentation of the league's history. Like the Almanacs, but with way more cross-referencing between player, team, and annual team and league pages, and the extras like team positional and pitcher histories and so on.

In fact, as much as I like Cato's presentation, it may prove legaly problematic to include in OOTP because it is a copy of baseball-reference.com. But, I'm no lawyer.

I've never been able to get Catobase to work, anyone have a thread they can point me too for problems with it? I've tried numerous times, I have a solo fictional league in it's seventh season, where I've played out every one of my team's games.

If you can get it operational, it really is a great utility - and that term probably understates its functionality.

Post your concerns in a new thread in the Mods Forum or you can tag on to a Cato Questions thread already in existence like this one:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ad.php?t=98469

And a rather Cato-like utility in progress being developed under the Anderson Utilities thread might be even more conducive to your interests as you may be able to actually contribute to its development. It's starting to look great. You can check out its history here:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ad.php?t=97830

or simply download the information here:

http://www.sim2005.com/oop1.htm

Good luck with either endeavor.

I thought with the insane amount of trackable stats that the new game is going to have that you will be able to track the same things as you can in Catobase. Is there any reason to believe otherwise?

I'm probably premature in my response here Karros, because I haven't gone back and re-read the announcement. To my recollection, there are a great deal of additional stats and achievements monitored, but I don't recall that any of these are customizeable in terms of selection or that they embraced the scope that a Cato-like utility encompasses.

But it's likely a wait-and-see until we have it in our hands and can better define what it is before we can accurately determine what we still aspire for inclusion.

Is it possible that Catobase is already going to be a part of OOTP7? Here is my thought. JCato disappered some time ago. Therefore he is not updating his program. Could this be because Markus has already either bought his program or has Cato working with him to develop the program for OOTP7? The nondisclousure agreement would prevent anyone in the know to let us know about this development.

Just a thought. What do you guys think?

Don't get me wrong, i would like it to be so, but I don't see why this would stop him from posting on here anymore.

This came up right before OOTP6 came out (Markus and Cato discussed it) but nothing came of it.

Yeah, it seems that Cato got sick of people hassling him because they were having problems with his free utility. A shame.

I would be surprised not to see some sort of html league history output come with OOTP7. The OOTP almanac was a start... I think it will be improved to be more like a Catobase.

(Actually, now that I think about it, I bet it won't be in OOTP7, but shortly after the release they'll sell an upgrade that has it in it...)
