Question How to Remove Foreign Player?

I'm playing in the WHL where there is a two foreign player limit. I have two foreign players on my roster.

I have the rights to an 18 year old foreign player that has been playing in the NHL. After he crossed the 10-game threshold, I figure that was it but kept onto his rights in case he is demoted to junior next year.

In February, after playing 21 games in the NHL, he is demoted to my roster.

First, I didn't think this was possible since he played more than 10 games.

Second, I'm now stuck with three foreign players on my roster and cannot advance to the next day. I cannot release one, I can't send one to Junior B, and I'm passed the trade deadline so I cannot trade one.

Short of going into commissioner mode, is there something I can do?

I just read that starting 2025, the CHL import draft has been expanded to three rounds and that CHL teams can now carry three foreign players. Of course, that's not reflected in the game yet. But I think I should be able to release a foreign player at any time.

Ok, I see the problem. On the Roster page, I always use the context-menu. For some reason, the context-menu in this situation doesn't show the options to demote to Junior B or to Lapse Rights. But if I open up the player card, those options are available under the "Action Menu", something I never use.

I don't know why there's a discrepancy but there you go.

I see you found your solution, but I just wanted to point this out;

That is not the case. At any point when a player is still of age, they can be returned to their CHL team. What the 10 game limit determines whether or not their 1st year of their contract starts. If a player plays more than 10 games, than year 1 of their contract goes. However, there's another limit as well (I want to say it's ~40 - but I can't remember off the top of my head) which also affects how soon a player can get to UFA status.
