Not sure what went wrong here

Have a random league that I started in 1970. I'm currently playing out August of 1988. Was watching a Yankees game and discovered the Yankees only have 11 position players on their 25 man roster. I have it set for teams to carry 15. They also have 8 pitchers in their bullpen. I have it set for teams to carry 5. Looking at the Yankees reserve roster, they have 43 players, all of them pitchers. 3 starter and 40 relief pitchers. 0 position players. Their are 128 free agents available with 98 of them being position players. The Yankees are actually in first place. There are 2 other teams that are experiencing the same type of thing, but not as extreme as the Yankees. These teams only have 1 catcher on the 25 man roster and none on the reserve roster. They are both carrying 6 relief pitchers. There are 19 free agent catchers available.

Looking at the last 6 Yankee draft(6 round amateur drafts) the Yankees have selected 35 pitchers and one position player.

I've been playing this way forever and have never seen anything like this.

After trying numerous things in an attempt to get the Yankees to start selecting position players, I finally gave up and deleted the league. I've been playing this way since OOTP16 and I've never seen a team get to the point that they didn't have enough position players on their roster to meet the 14 or 15 set as the league standard. There were 98 position players listed as free agents when I first noticed this, so the Yankees had players available to sign. Instead, they were rolling with only 3 subs.

I continue to see issues with roster makeup of AI controlled teams. Random debut. 25/26 man rosters. Unlimited reserve rosters. Usually 7 round drafts with enough players created for 9 rounds.

Will see teams with only one catcher on their 25/26 man roster. Sometimes that catcher is the only catcher on the team, period. In one league, the team with only one catcher would use Corbin Carroll at catcher when the teams actual catcher was fatigued(and I mean really fatigued...on his way to injury fatigued). In most cases, there are anywhere from 15-20 catchers on the free agent list. This also happens with other positions, but at least in the case of a team with only 1 SS it's easier for a team to move a guy rated to play 2B to SS etc. It almost seems like it should be hard coded for teams to carry at least 2 catchers, but 3 or 4 would make the most sense.

I don't know if stuff like this happens in fictional games/mlb Quickstart games. Thosse type of league may have more players rated at multiple positions. In the historical game it is happening way too much.
