FHM11 - Multiplayer/Online has several bugs
My league has been running for over a year on 10 and we upgraded to 11 over the weekend. Since doing so, I've ran into several bugs and we're having to revert back to 10 as a result.
I'd love to upgrade to 11 some day, so posting what happened here in hopes it can all be fixed. Bug #1: Importing team files is broken Importing our roughly 34 exports from GMs using a remote FTP server only took 15 seconds or so on 10. On FHM11, if you import all 34 team files at once, whether from a remote server or from the local import_export folder, the game will stop responding for 10 minutes or so, then crashes. I found a workaround where you can import team files just a couple at a time, and although it takes about 30+ minutes collectively, you can bring in most files with about a 95% success rate. Some team files will just refuse to take, however, and it's pretty random which ones will crash your game (was different GMs each sim with varying file sizes). Bug #2: AJ AJ Bug For the team files that do take, those teams' position coaches, trainer, and head/advance scout positions get set to an "AJ AJ" from Algeria character with generic stats. If the GM doesn't export, this doesn't happen. If you fix it for the teams who exported, it will all just go back to AJ AJ the next time they export. This bug is quite save-breaking and is the main reason we're reverting back to 10. Bug #3: Budgets become corrupted Similar to the AJ AJ bug, any GM who has a team file imported in by me, the simmer, has all of their annual and monthly budgets set to the minimum available option. For example, they may have set their wage budget to "High" on July 1st, but as soon as I take a file from them, it's reset to "Very Low". This happens everywhere- Arena Quality, Player Development, Team Morale, etc etc (Edit: and the change is real. Not just a graphical bug, i.e. their budget actually does get lowered which impacts signings, etc) Happy to provide any files you may need to troubleshoot. I've been asking around the FHM community on Discord, and apparently this bug is present on all 11 leagues right now- even fresh saves that didn't upgrade. I was the commish who posted on the 29th, these are the exact issues we are dealing with, but Mike articulated it much better than me. These are the things to keep an eye on/fix

Yeah, please upload the league files and send me the commissioner password via private message. I'm not sure what could be causing issue #1; I can't think of any difference significant enough in the importing mechanics between 10 and 11 that it would cause something like that. 2 and 3 sound like they could be offshoots of whatever's going wrong with the imports, something's getting corrupted in the team data and the names file (and possibly other places.)

Really disappointing that this bug isn't getting more attention. Has basically ruined every online league and undermined confidence in the game

Any progress on the bug? The lack of attention to online leagues throughout the years has been very frustrating. Really hoping FHM12 focuses more on online leagues! But we still need a bug fix for FHM11 so we can get these leagues moving.

We have long moved on back on FHM10 so not sure I can be of help at this point, but these issues are core to the game. They occur 100% of the time in all contexts. I know you guys already have the BOWL and BOHL online league files, and those have all three bugs. To recreate the issues, the devs could also fire up a multiplayer save, create 2 or 3 GM profiles, export from them, then try importing those team files. All three bugs will be present in that case as well.
Before all this, my league had a policy in our rulebook that we always upgrade to the most recent release of the game, effectively forcing 34 copies of each new game to be sold. This was to help me with recruiting and get access to the latest features, but also generate revenue so you guys can keep making the game better. I bring this up to make the case for why multiplayer should be prioritized and confirmed working in the future, not to be condescending or anything. I'd be thrilled to get to a point where we can confidently upgrade every year, but that confidence is definitely shaken right now. |
