Expand or Contract
I have a 40 team league. My team is dominate. I don't want to break it up. So should I expand which wile weakening me also waters down the competition. Or contract 4 teams which strengths the competition but also helps me. If I do contract can I have a draft of just the released players, or are they free agents. I suppose I could just have an fa draft.

Contract. That will create a lot of FAs. Prohibit yourself from signing any.

Yeah 40 teams is too many for the talent, if you’re using real contemporary players. If there were a way to create a draft of the “released” players from the former teams, that would favor the weakest teams in your organization, I would do that. Otherwise the richest teams would sign the new free agents.
If you nevertheless choose to expand, set a limit of twelve protected players per team, plus players with less than three years MLB service time. That will change things at the top in a hurry, and you expansion teams won’t suck.

I am going to stick with what has worked so far, flooding the Draft pool, Free Agents, with players ranging from good to legend.
