q on using past seasons

I have always used current rosters as my starting point. I need some familiarity; going fictional seems like too much work to me. But, I'm looking over my team, based on today's game. every one of my hitters is an extreme FB hitter. All my starters get hurt. Nobody runs. It's all HRs or BBs. It's just not fun to play.

I am thinking of going back to like 1980 or 90 and starting from there, but I'm wondering how you guys like doing that? Specifically, I'm wondering if my knowledge of history is going to give me an edge over the AI in evaluating players? And...how is the game at handling multiple seasons, if I start in one year and just go from there?

Your knowledge of history always helps. The draft balances you out. I love playing the 60s-90s. Not allowing draft pick trading can make for a humbling experience, or for that matter turning off trading altogether. For every advantage you find for yourself, turn off something until you find a balance.

Modern baseball sucks. I start somewhere from 63 to 71 and stop usually by 1990. Went past that once only to see what Bonds would do.
