Stat generator needs an update for out of position players
Probably needs some adjustments
Was trying to determine how I was down 3-1 in this draft to this team (or how it got to the 3rd round to begin with, esp. seeing as how it went a full 7 games for the first two rounds, without a functioning depth chart) (*update: lost in 6 games) as is usual, the determination is: it's completely random, based on hidden values for each card spitting out a % chance for an outcome, and then the stat generator doing its work .. and then we'll have the defenders saying that it's a "small sample size" and so on, because there can never be a large enough sample size (probably by design, right?). apologists. unfortunately I couldn't find a good way to sort the stats by *just* outs played as a catcher, but there were plenty of these people at the top of the CERA sort that had multiple games started as a catcher, with positive ZR, no passed balls, etc. 0-0-0 skill, indeed need to take a gander at the stat spitter so even the random number generator decides I should lose, say, this 16 inning game, that Lorenzo Cain doesn't catch a flawless game with zero passed balls, none of my runners attempting to stea, a positive ZR, and a FRM of 0.0. Make it *seem* a bit more realistic, right? Last edited by zevus; 04-24-2026 at 01:44 AM. |

I decided to check into the 2B situation too, seeing as how the depth chart was lacking there too,
Pep Young got replaced three times, Once each with Pepper Martin, Charlie Sweeney, and Tim Jordan. They performed better than Pep Young himself! Pepper Martin had an EFF of 1.055 and a ZR of -0.1 for 9 innings (vs the -0.9 ZR and 0.807 EFF he had as a 3B over 36 innings). His 3B rating is 56 (64 range, 48 error, 76 arm, 33 turn DP) -- his 2B rating is zero. Charlie Sweeney had an EFF of 1.055 and a ZR of -0.1 for 8 innings. supposedly his infield ratings are 65 range, 32 error, 58 arm, 42 turn DP. Charlie's rating at second base is zero. Tim Jordan had an EFF of, well, 1.055 (you expected something else? haha!). His ZR is 0.2 (!!!) over 9 innings, he also turned one double play. His infield ratings are 41 range, 19 error, 22 arm, and 34 turn doubleplay. Mr. Jordan's rating at second base is estimated at Zero. Pep Young's EFF was 1.006 over 160 innings, with a ZR of -0.1, supposedly his infield ratings are 106 range, 66 error, 76 arm, and 102 turn DP. He had nine double plays in those 160 innings. His 2B rating is a stellar 118. I'm a bit dubious, maybe it's similar to the same mechanism that causes IGN to give Dragon Age: The Veilguard a 9/10 Last edited by zevus; 04-24-2026 at 02:03 AM. |

Here is the "Friday Draft About Nothing" weekly CERA stats after the 6th game of the second round (so max number of games would be 13), the filter is filtering out anyone that hasn't given up at least one catcher earned run, so potentially there's a lot more out-of-position catchers that are performing as out-of-position catchers do (at least in non-standard rulesets),
Ray Brown is #1 in CERA, so I focused on his individual stats, his ratings for catcher are 1-1-1 (which in theory is better than the 0-0-0 some players have), he features 2 putouts, one assist, a 100% RTO, a 0.2 ZR, etc. I wasn't paying super special attention to this last night, but his actual CERA is 1.00, not 0.1 that the stats shows. Those all seem erroneous, Alex Jackson shows 0.21, his player page shows 0.53, but in 17 innings his pitchers have given up 2 earned runs --- uh, should be 1.17, right? |

and while I have this recent thread with all these attachments,
in the first attachment, my setting for "no" on allow starting pitchers in relief was ignored ... this occurred for the other team, too in the second attachment, my setting for "no" on allow starting pitchers in relief was honored, as was the other team. why? supposedly they are both "modern" settings? also, why isn't a runner starting on second base? also, these both occurred today, why is the simulation generating 25 and 26 inning games at such frequency Last edited by zevus; 04-24-2026 at 05:54 PM. |
