For anyone interested in this, I have opted for a Plan B that I'll report on as it progresses.

Rather than import rookies manually into the Draft Pool, I am bringing them in as FA and doing an FA Draft.

While the player performance and ratings behaviour of these versions is yet to be seen, already I can see great improvements in the process.

The spurious stats and histories are nowhere to be seen. They all come in with zero service time, as opposed to made-up and often nonsensical amounts the other way, and the contracts they end up being given are much more orderly and realistic for young players just entering the game, rather than the utterly random contracts doled out using the other method.

I truly hope the devs are following, paying attention, and will at least give due consideration to fixing this long-standing issue or giving us the option to do so manually. It looks to me that it's as simple as imposing the logic, programming and process for the FA Draft into the Rookie Draft.

OK the latest, and likely last, update on this is that I have finally convinced myself with a bunch more testing that the way the game does the Draft with these spurious histories and stat lines has minimal effect.

I am now fairly certain the double-weight current year was the culprit behind that save being so problematic.

That said, I would still like the option to bypass this process and just have the historical players come in raw if you so desire. Doubtful I'll get any love on this but there you go.

The other thing I would heartily recommend to the devs is that the default for the double-weight option is set to NO, as opposed to the current YES. Again, not sure I'll see this implemented but I feel better for having requested it all the same, as I think it would benefit all who use this methodology.

I will add that - and I'm first to admit this might be some sort of psychological bias on my part - the Plan B I have adopted using the FA Draft seems to make the whole league feel more stable. But it is a right PITA to do every year, thus my request to at least have the option to bypass.
