No sound

Although my sound box and speakers are working and music can be played form my library, more often than not, I don't get the game sounds I used to get, even though Enabled is checked in Game Options. When I go to Sound Files and select a sound and hit play, the sound is heard. But more often than not, not when I play a game. Any suggestions? Anyone else experience this? A game bug or something I can fix on my end?

Check in the pregame screen, see what volume your different sounds are set to. Right hand side under general game options.

Try adjusting them up to see if that helps.

Also when the game first opens, click on settings and then the "Misc" tab and ensure In Game Sound is enabled.

Thanks for the quick response. All settings were as you suggested, and just for kicks I set all sound options to default. Now here's the really strange part: As before, if I switch to experimental speech setting, the sound comes through loud and clear (stilted and slow/robotic as you have probably heard). So the mystery continues.

Only other thing I could suggest is make sure your sound card drivers are up to date. Not sure if that will make a difference.

I don't use the text to speech option myself, not a fan of it.

Hopefully you can figure this out.

I appreciate your kindness and attention to this, but there is one thing that has helped, at least occasionally--and it just did--and that is to close down everything and restart the computer. What difference that makes--no settings were changed in the game, or in my sound apparatus etc.---is puzzling to me.

Yup. The old joke about "just reboot it" has some truth in it.
