Bud, as much as I'd like to have him at the Sox, I don't think that's the club Orlando Cepeda should be coming to as a minor league rookie, as OOTP does.

His 1955 stat line in the game has him at the Salem Rebels for part of the season, and the Rebels as a Red Sox affiliate. It is the latter of these that I think is causing the confusion. I see no evidence of this affiliation, and seems to me yet another error in the Sox MiLB timeline. BBRef has this club as unaffiliated, with the Bluefield club from the same APPY league as the Sox affiliate.

As far as Cha Cha is concerned, BBRef has his first transaction as the Giants signing him as an amateur FA during the 1954-55 offseason, so he should really come in as a Giant, or if you insist as a FA (although you know my thoughts on that matter...).

Will leave to you to fix him as you see fit and pass on this erroneous Salem affiliation to the appropriate person.

FWIW, in my 1955 test, Cepeda starts out on the Corning Red Sox of the PONY League. What I *think* actually happened is that the imported into the game to the Salem Red Sox of the Appy League, but then OOTP AI instantly re-assigned him to Corning. But I don't know that for sure, as OOTP player history does not track such things.

As for Salem being an affiliate of the Red Sox, this is incorrect, likely a legacy typo issue that goes back to at least OOTP 21 but probably since minors were introduced to OOTP (v17?). And even though Cepeda IRL split his time with Salem & Kokomo (of the Mississippi-Ohio Valley League) in 1955, Kokomo & the MOVL are not included in OOTP. Therefore, all of Cepeda's 1955 stats are associated - in OOTP's player db - with Salem.

To clarify, Cepeda's actual path, Salem was his first team in 1955 (per his SABR bio, which seems definitive re this subject). After a month there, he was apparently purchased by the Giants' organization and assigned to Kokomo, which - though not an actual Giants affiliate - likely had some sort of working arrangement with NYG. Hard to say because affiliate arrangements in those days were not always official. This is why the three primary resources for MLB-MiLB affiliate relationships - baseball-reference.com, statscrew.com, and Benjamin Barrett Sumner's "Minor League Baseball Standings" book each have their own criteria for making that determination, and therefore these resources don't always align.

Yep, as suspected, the Salem affiliation is the issue. FWIW you should be able to see that Salem-Corning move in the transactions log for each affiliate.
