Quoting myself because I put this in the MLB thread by mistake and this should be here for posterity:

Quote:
I trust Uncle Stevie is firing David Stearns RIGHT THE **** NOW.

Remember, Danny Jansen gave the Brewers the lead before our carefully-constructed bullpen (including the guy we traded Butto, Butthole, and Blade to get) imploded.

Pa-THET-ic.

And maybe Moron Mendoza shouldn't have pulled Manaea (whom we are paying $25,000,000 per season for a reason, I presume) after only FIVE outs, without yielding a run or even a HIT. Fire that ****er, too, as is obvious.
Juan Soto today

1st inning, bases empty, made out.

3rd inning, men on 1B/2B, inning-ending GiDP

5th inning, men on 1B/2B, was pitched around. (The look on Pete's face when what he thought was a bases-clearing double in the gap was caught is the Mets' season, right there.)

7th inning, man on 2B, pops up to end inning.

9th inning, dies on-deck as Frankie Sweet Money GiDP to end the game.

Plesac actually thinks nobody is getting fired. I'd fire Plesac just for saying that.

Class, bro. Look it up. At least that way you'll know what you're lacking.

Remember, the Mets may have failed. But at least they're not in Milwaukee.

Says the guy that can't type out a simple post on this forum without using name puns and double entendre. You're funny, and a hypocrite. Best of luck next season, billion-dollar Mets.

Yeah, no. This is rather low, low. Not in the Mets thread itself. Picture them doing it to you in a Brewers thread.

I can't wait to hear your deep and profound objections to my use of same. I'm fairly certain that both are signs of mental agility far above your emoji-based taunting, which in this case is flat-out rude.

In fact, I cheated (as I'm busy drinking) and asked Google Gemini for a few classical examples:

Quote:
1. Sophocles' Oedipus Rex (Classical Greek Tragedy)
The name of the tragic hero is a profound and painful pun that underscores the central themes of the play: knowledge and his physical deformity.

Name Pun: Oedipus (Oἰδ
ι
ˊ
πους Oidípous).

Literal Meaning: "Swollen Foot." This is a direct reference to the physical injury he received as an infant when his ankles were pinned together and he was exposed on the mountainside.

Thematic Pun: The Greek verb οἶδα (oida) means "I know" or "I see," and δ
ι
ˊ
πους (dípous) means "two-footed."

Sophocles plays on the sound of the name, suggesting "I know" and "two-footed" (the answer to the Sphinx's riddle). This connects the hero's name to the central themes of seeing the truth and human knowledge/ignorance.

2. Homer's The Odyssey (Classical Greek Epic)
This is one of the most famous name puns in all of literature, used by Odysseus himself to survive a perilous encounter.

Name Pun: Outis (Οὔτις).

Double Meaning: The name he gives to the Cyclops, Polyphemus, is a pun on the Greek phrase "No one" or "Nobody."

Thematic Purpose: After Odysseus blinds the Cyclops, Polyphemus cries out for help, shouting, "Nobody is killing me by force!" The other Cyclopes, hearing this, naturally assume that no one is harming him and refuse to intervene, allowing Odysseus and his men to escape.

3. Shakespeare's Richard III
A pun based on a political lineage and a historical figure.

Name Pun: Sun of York and Son of York.

Line: "Now is the winter of our discontent / Made glorious summer by this sun of York."

Double Meaning: The first meaning refers to the heraldic badge of the House of York, which was a sun. The second, more crucial meaning is a pun on "son," referring to the current King Edward IV, the son of the Duke of York, whose reign brought a "glorious summer" (an end to war).
Read them and weep, sir.

From The Sporting News, via Yahoo: Mets Fans Call for Manager Carlos Mendoza to be Fired.

To quote Buffy Summers, "Add it up, it all spells 'duh!'" 83-79. Add Juan Soto, get a far better season from Pete, have Nimmo post career highs in power…and come out six games worse than last season.

If Uncle Stevie waits for these losers to follow 89-73 and 83-79 with 77-85, he's a fool.

(Gee, imagine if we had hired Craig Counsell, as everyone thought the hiring of Stearns portended?)

Apparently, the Blind Squirrels may be parting ways with Wilmer Flores.

Bring. Him. Home. STAT.

Speaking of stats, Wilmer seems to have led the NL in walk-off hits this season, to absolutely nobody's surprise.

When I clamored for everybody in the front office to be fired, I was a bit too over-excited.

I would like to except the cleaning lady, and also Jay Horwitz.

Everybody else can go shovel dirt in a landfill, I don't care.

The Bad for Baseball podcast gives the lowdown on the Mets' 2nd half struggles: they went 28-37 with a team ERA of 4.74, which was 25th among the 30 teams.

They also tell us the Mets might need to rebuild because not only has Pete opted out, but …Edwin Diaz has an opt-out.

Oh, please, please, please…

Also they note that Starling Marte, Cedric Mullins, Ryan Helsley and Jesse Winker will all be FAs. Yeah, they can FO. Share a cab to the airport, dudes

Every team should have a thread like this one. Of course, that would require many more forum members.

Everybody but Pete can go. (Excluding rookies under team control of course)

Oh, and add Mr. and Mrs. Met and GKR to the list of keepers, along with the cleaning lady and Jay Horwitz.

The Mets'd Up podcast guys are unhappy, too. I mean, they're even pissed that Steve Cohen hasn't said anything of substance since the end of the season.

They point out that we stood 62-44 after sweeping the Giants (July 27) and went 21-35 thereafter. We played .375 baseball for the final two months of the season. A 61-101 pace.

How does this team play two months' of ball that's worse that what the team ever played under Joe Torre and George Bamberger/Frank Howard? We went through seven years of darkness (you weren't even born but you would have spent them curled in a ball) when we never won 70 games in a season. But we never lost 100. We played like a 101-loss team for two months…with THIS team.

And yet Moron Mendoza might not be fired.

They point out that last year's team succeeded in spite of Moron Mendoza because they had "glue guys" in the clubhouse…Iglesias (who ignited the turnaround last year) and J.D. Martinez and even Stanek, and yes, your pal Jesse Winker.

I don't know if you follow the NBA closely enough, but Winker is a Patrick Beverley type…you hate him when he's on any team but yours, but you love him when he's yours. My Los Angeles Chokers, er, Clippers pulled miracles out of their hats consistently with Pat-Bev on the team…and they've been lifeless since we sent him away. Meanwhile, look at what he's done for Minnesota…

Well, Winker, love him or hate him, is that guy. Sometimes (Milwaukee) even his teammates end up hating him, but generally he's a clubhouse plus. Who could call his team's young star "Big ****ter", basically, and yet have it stick? And look how well Chunky Cheeks and the Mariners flourished after that…

This season, we were too cheap to bring back Candelita, gave JD's job to Winker, and then watched Winker get hurt and the team fall off the cliff once he was done for the season. And Stanek lost his ability to lead once he ended up completely useless.

As one of these dudes points out, Mendoza is an Aaron Boone disciple…"and Aaron Boone is a moron!"

(I can hear Bru nodding as I type that.)

Seriously, can we not hire another Yankees cast-off? Craig Counsell would have won 95 games both seasons.

And, I'd blocked this from my memory, but the guys pointed it out…Moron Mendoza only squeaked into the #6 spot last season due to a ****ing tie-breaker. An average of 86-76, with one of the biggest payrolls in the game. That's not good enough.

Mendoza to remain Mets manager

I go to bed now.

Please flick off the lights on this shambles of a team when you're done here.

I'm out.

Call me when the clowns are gone.

The winter here's cold and bitter
It's chilled us to the bone
We haven't seen the sun for weeks
To long too far from home
I feel just like I'm sinking
And I claw for solid ground
I'm pulled down by the undertow
I never thought I could feel so low
Oh darkness I feel like letting go…
