Tips to create a correct NHL expansion draft

Hello everyone, can someone help me, writing here the correct rules to create the NHL expansion draft like the Seattle Kraken does three years ago.

Thanks everyone

Expansion drafts have changed rules with almost every draft. Using my favourite search engine I searched for "seattle nhl expansion draft rules" and found this from NHL.com which shows the rules for every expansion draft. This is something that should be pretty easy to look up yourself using the same (or a similar) query. There are lots of sites that covered the Vegas and Seattle expansion draft rules.

What do you mean by "something real"? You want the exact same rules as the Seattle draft? The link posted previously gives the following details:

Quote:
  • The Kraken must select a minimum of 20 players who are under contract for the 2021-22 season.
  • Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft:
    - Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender
-Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender
  • All players who have currently effective and continuing “No Movement” clauses at the time of the Expansion Draft (and who to decline to waive such clauses) must be protected (and will be counted toward their club’s applicable protection limits).
  • All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club’s applicable protection limits).
With those rules you should be able to easily get very close to the Seattle draft. If there's any specific rule you don't know how to implement, we can help you with it.

You need to update the 'Max Skaters Protected' and 'Skater Draft Rounds' values
to equal the sum of the positional values.

So in this case Max skaters Protected = 11 and Skater Draft Rounds = 31.

Skaters is actually a different category so it is not the sum of defensemen and forwards and those can stay at zero in your set up. However, I would recommend only using the skater category only instead of defensemen and forwards. The reason why is that you have to pick the goalies first, then defensemen, and then forwards. With only 1 player lost per team, that means you may miss out on better players in a later category when you pick in that strict order. Can't fix goalies being first but at least you can pick forwards and defensemen at the same time.

Here are the rules I use when I expand the NHL: Current NHL teams may protect 7 forwards, 3 defensemen, and one goalie. Expansion teams will pick one player from each team and must pick at least 14 forwards, 9 defensemen, and 3 goalies. No Movement Clause (NMC) players must be protected. One change from the Seattle draft: players with 1 year of professional experience are automatically protected instead of 2 years to make up for there being no entry draft as in real life for the expansion teams. The latter stops you from having a totally barren farm system but doesn't let do the same to the other teams.
