Champions League

In 3038 the Champions League was created which would bring together the top teams from regional and indepedent leagues in a combined tournament. Initially the top two teams from each of the Elder Scrolls League, the Nuka Cola League (both part of the Bethesda Baseball league), the Galactic Baseball League and the Comic League would be divided into two groups of four. Each of the leagues organised off weeks in their leagues where the Champions League matches could take place. This allowed the tournament to be a part of the season rather than seen as another post season tournament. There is one off week in May, June and July with an extra off week in July for the playoffs. The games are organised into 2 game series played on the Tuesday and Wednesday and the subsequent Saturday and Sunday of the off week for a total of 12 games (6 home, 6 away) for each team.

The first major change came in 3046 when the Iron Throne League was added to the Champions League. In order to maintain two groups of 4, a qualifier was added to the tournament to decided who would play in the Champions League each season. The winner of five leagues, along with the previous winner of the Champions League, would automatically qualify. The remaining two spots came from the qualifier, made up of the second place teams in each league and the third place in the league with the highest league coefficient (not including the champion). The league coefficient is a value for each league calculated from how well the teams from the league perform over the last four years in the Champions League.

In 3049 the United League was added to act as a secondary competition to the Champions League. It was also started to prepare for the future expansion of the Champions League the following year. For the first year the United League was made up of the four teams who failed to qualify for the Champions League as well as next team in the remaining leagues ranked by coefficient. It was decided that the winner of the United League would automatically qualify for the Champions League the following year so this became an important prize.

3050 Playoffs

3050 saw the major expansion to the current system of the Champions League. With the addition of the Elderling Baseball League and The One Ring League, the number of teams in the Champions League was doubled to 16 with brand new qualification standards. The top 8 teams came from the previous years champion and the winner of each of the 7 leagues (or second place if the champion won their own league). The third seeds came from the second/third place team in the top 4 leagues ranked by coefficient. The final seeds came from three qualifiers and the United League champion of the previous year. The schedule was kept the same and the competition expanded to 4 groups of 4 teams, with the top two moving on to the quarter finals. The United League remained at 8 teams taking in the teams who lost in the qualifiers and the remaining leagues by coefficient.

Diamond City Red Sox (NCL) were the first team to lift the trophy and have since won it twice more in 3042 and 3046. They have also played in the Champions League 10 times, the most of any team, and have played in the last 9 years. Megaton are right behind them matching their three wins but only having 9 appearances. We have yet to see a winner from the Galactic Baseball League and Iron Throne League, although the Iron Islands lost the final in 3050 to Whiterun. The EBL and ORL did not have a great showing in their first year failing to get through the groups in both the Champions League and United League. However The Shire did get through the qualifiers to make the Champions League which shows there could be some improvement in the coming years.
