The San Diego Padres did just enough to sneak past the San Francisco Giants, 4-3, at Candlestick Park. San Diego pitcher Clay Kirby earned player of the game honors. Gary Ross converted his 10th save in 15 tries. The Padres raised their record to 60-101.
Kirby contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one of the critical at-bats that helped San Diego get the win.
Kingman hit a late homerun off RHP Clay Kirby as the Giants tried to claw back.
