Well, in a season that thus far had been pretty much going better than expected, you almost kind of knew something was bound to happen.
This hurts, no doubt, for this season, but looking beyond that. We just signed Lewis to an extension thanks to an offer my predecessor had submitted. It was too rich for someone 39 years old, at least from a number of years standpoint. I wasn't comfortable with it, but left it out there thinking I didn't want to upset him at all. Hindsight is 20/20, but I probably should have gone with my gut.
At 39 years old, you have to wonder if this is the end of the line for Lee. How someone bounces back from an injury, and a rehab this lengthy, is a question.
For now at least, we'll sit pat with what we have, and see how things progress. I'll most likely call up Leon Williams from AAA to fill his roster spot. But we may not need 11 pitchers given the way our staff overall has pitched thus far this season. Something else to keep an eye on going forward.
