The 1969 MLB HR's Totals in Real Life

A regular winner of the MLB's HR race yearly was the Twins Harmon Killebrew. Killebrew lead the MLB in 1963 with 45, 1964 with 49, 1967 with 44 and in 1969 with 49. Killebrew never ever did reach the 50 plateau hitting 49 twice. Only in 1968 when he was limited to 100 games when he hit 17 did he hit less then 25 HRs for 14 seasons.

Washington Senators Frank Howard finished the 1969 campaign with 48 HRs. Howard won the HR title just once, in 1968 when he hit 44. "Hondo" has 8 HRs so far this season and is on pace for 48, exactly what he hit. Howards 48 that he hit in 1969 was a career high and in the middle of a 3 year run of 40 or more (44, 48, 44.)

Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves would round out the top 5 HR hitters in 1969. Surprizing enough for all the HRs Aaron hit over his career, he only led the Majors once with 44 in 1957. Aaron had a career high 47 HRs in 1971 with the Braves as he acheived the 40 HR mark 8-times. As we all know at this point he was chasing down Babe Ruth's 714 HRs and at this point he is at 514 with the 4 he has hit so far this season.
