The Montreal Expos eked out a 3-2 win versus the Chicago Cubs at Stade Olympique. Nobody did more than pitcher Ross Grimsley Jr, who captured player of the game honors. In 7 innings, Grimsley Jr surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. The save was Elias Sosa's, his 14th.
The Expos got a big at-bat from first baseman Warren Cromartie. For the game, Cromartie was 1-3 with a walk. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 71st hit of the season gave Montreal a 1-0 lead.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Cromartie.
