CBL - Grand Championship Preview

The following preview was written by the CBL team representative.

League Website: Continental Baseball League - An Out of the Park Online Baseball League

Check out their team at: Home Page

Direction and goals: I began putting this roster together with the stadium in mind. I wanted to piece together a team that could thrive in a known pitcher's park but would be able to hold its own when on the road as well. With that in mind, I focused my selections for position players around players who were adept at finding a way to get on base, particularly players who hit well gap to gap and who are very disciplined, players who would work deep into counts and could draw walks. I also focused on a strong infield defense as well as outfield range.

For pitching I looked to players who performed strongly independently of the defense behind them. Reasoning that with a solid defense behind them and the advantage of a pitcher friendly park, their performance would be made that much stronger.

Keys to Winning

1. Working the count. Seeing a lot of pitches and getting starters out of the game early. With fatigue on and no minor leagues to draw upon, getting to the bullpen early and often becomes a huge gain.

2. Quality starts. Conversely, my starters need to get deep into games to keep my bullpen fresh.

3. Getting on base. You cant score unless you get on base. In a pitchers park like Petco, that's even more true.

4. Defense, defense, defense. Keeping opposing baserunners to a minimum is key.

Looking forward to getting started. See you all on the field.
