Thomas led off the bottom of the first by striking out for the 20th time this season.

In the top of the third, Evers brought one home with a double. Evers would score on a Chance single.

In the top of the fourth, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Pfiester went down on strikes for the second out. Evers then lined out to the pitcher to retire the side.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bransfield singled to extend his hit streak to 16 games. But the Phillies stranded a pair.

In the bottom of the fifth, Thomas put the Phillies on the board with an RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, the Cubs tried a squeeze play but Pfiester could not put the ball into play and Tinker was tagged out at home.

After six: Chicago 2 Philadelphia 1.

In the top of the eighth, Tinker had a run-scoring double.

Pfiester gave up a base on balls to Magee to lead off the bottom of the ninth, issuing his 20th walk of the season. Magee would go on to score on a Bransfield groundout to third. The Phillies would have the tying run on second butCourtney flied out to center to end the game.
