On his 3rd attempt, Conor finally did it winning the interim WBC JMW title with a 12 UD over Asinia Byfield - 116-113 & 115-113 twice. Back in December of 2017, Conor had a draw with Marcello Matano - the WBC champ at the time.

These 2 had met earlier this year when the fight was stopped in the 6th round due to a cut over Conor's right eye. Asinia agreed to give Conor an immediate (and lucrative) rematch rather than face Margarito - the WBC mandatory challenger. Antonio then stopped Lara in 2 rounds & was recently promoted to full champ by the WBC.

The jubilant Conor said: "Who's Margarito? I never heard of him!" when he was asked if he planned to fight the fearsome Mexican next?

Conor won the PL battle too: 292 (31%) to 287 (29%).
