In the top of the first, the Rangers got their first run before getting their first hit as Howard brought Maddox home from third with a groundout to short. Burroughs then followed with a two run homer.
In the bottom of the first, Jackson hit his own two run blast. Later in the same inning, Epstein scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
In the top of the third, Howard gave the Rangers the lead back with an RBI single. Burroughs added his own RBI single.

Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Mincher then brought two home with a single.
Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the sixth.

Diego Segui took the mound for the Athletics in the top of the seventh.
Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the eighth. Green hit a two out double as Pina injured his leg and had to leave the game. Paul Lindblad then took the mound for the Rangers and got out of the inning unscathed.
Darold Knowles took the mound for the Athletics in the top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out. Epstein then tied the game with a grand slam. Casey Cox then took the mound for the Rangers. With runners at first and second and two out, Campaneris grounded to second to send the game into extra innings.
After nine: Texas 7 Oakland 7.
Bob Locker took the mound for the Athletics in the top of the tenth.
In the bottom of the tenth, Jackson ended it with a solo home run.
