I write it up to habit. If there is FIFA on tv, I say let's watch the game not match. Doesn't mean I don't know what it is supposed to be called, it just doesn't roll off my tongue. Same with pitch/field.

As long as the person understand the intricacies, I would forgive some terminology slips.
