The Habs are home to the (13-5-3) Philadelphia Flyers. They are meeting for the 1st time this year.


Montreal goes up 1-0 when LD Anthony Reynolds sets up C Patrick Atkins on a break away at 7:06 for his 10th of the year. Montreal gets a PP goal just seconds after Philadelphia takes the penalty. C Jeff Pilbeam controlled the draw and scored without another Canadiens player touching the puck for his 2nd of the year at 7:28, 2 seconds after the PP started. At 11:05 LW David Wass hits Patrick Atkins in behind the defense, his shot is saved by LD Vincent Lavoie collects and buries the rebound for his 4th of the season and a 3-0 lead. RW Petr Klusacek picks up a rebound off of LW Randolph Lott's shot and scores his 5th of the season at 15:24 to go up 4-0 and the Flyers change goalies. That is how the period ends with Montreal outshooting the Flyers 19-10.


Montreal goes up 5-0 on the PP when LW Emile Boudreau deflects RW Joey Mariani's shot for his 7th of the year at 8:15. The Habs extend the lead to 6-0 at 14:33 when RW Robert Cull collects a rebound and scores his 3rd of the season. After another dominant period, Montreal leads on the shot clock as well, 33-14.


The Flyers do break the goose-egg, while short handed LW John Russell gets his 11th of the year at 3:24 to make it 6-1 beating G Bill Wolfenbarger. Montreal gets that one back at 15:34 when LD Dominick Heatherington sends RD Steven Thornton in all alone for his 4th of the year. The Habs go 8-1 when LD Richard Nytra gets his 1st of the year swatting at a rebound at 16:42. The finals shots were 42-24 for Montreal.


Montreal 8 Philadelphia 1


Montreal Canadiens C Patrick Atkins was the 1st star with his goal and an assist with +3 rating in 15:45 of ice time. The 20 year old has 10 goals and 20 points with 6 PIMs and a +6 rating in 24 games. Last season he had 33 goals and 82 points in 43 CHL games with the Red Deer Rebels.


New Jersey Devils RW Magnus Sundstrom had a goal and 2 assists in a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs. The 31 year old has 9 goals and 18 points with 10 PIMs and a +10 rating in 21 games. Last year Sundstrom had 17 goals and 56 points in 72 games with the Devils.
