It's possible, but unlikely, for teams to play a player out of position like that if they have a lineup situation (e.g. multiple defencemen injured) that demands it. But it would take quite a while for Hughes to develop a decent position rating at D, so it's very rare to see it done for long enough to turn into a full-time change.
