So as I said is it even worth worrying about left/right when selecting a lineup if you do not generate random splits.

I'm not sure why the 2015 season would have LR splits. It hadn't even started at the time of release (March 20, 2015) of OOTP16.
I can't even begin to fathom the amount of work that would have to go into creating RL LR splits for historical seasons, can you? The database is immense already. Also, I'm not sure how far back LR splits go in history. Somewhere in the 1950's maybe? It certainly doesn't stretch all the way back to 1871.
If anybody's capable of doing it, it's Spritze, the resident database genius. If it hasn't been done yet, it's probably because it's too difficult to code/incorporate into the game.
