Walkers news: April 28 -- Springfield 9, St. Louis 7, 10 innings

Record: 13-7, 1st, 2 GA Des Moines and Springfield
Mookie Betts connected for a two-run single off St. Louis' Reyes Moronta in the top of the 10th inning to help give Springfield a 9-7 win at Busch Stadium.
Delino De Shields had led off the inning with a single of Moronta and stole second base. His fourth steal of the game.
The River Walkers then decided to walk Max Schrock, who bats left-handed, to bring Betts to the plate. He then slammed the third pitch he saw down the left-field line, scoring both DeShields and Schrock.
It was a wild game.
St. Louis' Andrew Benintendi hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning off Prairie Fighters starting pitcher Pablo Lopez.
In the top of the second, Springfield answered back with a trio of runs.

Abiatal Avelino with an RBI single off St. Louis starter Luis Gohara. DeShields drove in a run with a fielder's choice. A run which scored on a Schrock sacrifice fly then tied it.
The teams then traded runs -- Freddie Freeman drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Travis Shaw followed with an RBI double to put Springfield up 7-5 in the top of the sixth, only to have the Walkers' Michael Conforto slam a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh -- until the Fighters plated a pair in the top of the 10th, which St. Louis failed to answer.

Carl Edwards Jr., who tossed a scoreless ninth, for Springfield, collected his first win of the season.
Taylor Williams allowed a pair of baserunners in the 10th, but still came out of it with his first save.
(COMPLAINT: DeShields had four steals in the game and Springfield had five total. But not on one occasion when I had my best base runners -- Inciarte and Benintendi -- attempt to steal were they allowed to go. Got the old, he didn't get a good jump excuse. Lame).
