06/29/1973 - Astros Sneak Past Giants, 4-3

The Houston Astros topped the San Francisco Giants by the score of 4-3, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman Cliff Johnson. Johnson went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Astros. Houston reliever Fred Gladding picked up the win to move to 5-1. Juan Marichal suffered the loss. The last-place Giants have dropped 4 straight games.

Johnson had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 1-0 fastball from Juan Marichal, he banged a run-scoring single to right, giving the Astros a 4-3 lead. It was the 54th hit of the year for Johnson.

Kingman led off the 7th with his 3rd career homer off LHP Jerry Reuss, which tied the game 2-2.
