05/04/1973 - Cubs Come Back Late to Clip Giants

The Chicago Cubs defeated the San Francisco Giants, 11-6. Earning player of the game honors was left fielder Billy L Williams, who went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Bob Locker sewed up the save, his 4th.

Carmen Fanzone aided the Chicago cause with a 2-run single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the pinch hitter went 1 for 1, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Williams told the Chicago News.

The Giants drop to 13-14 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1973 season. Slugging first baseman Dave Kingman added a HR against Cubs ace RHP Fergie Jenkins.
