  • Cincinnati let me know that reliever Steve Frappier is available. Frappier is 2-2 with 1 save and a 1.82 ERA on the year. This is an intriguing possibility. Something else to monitor and see if we might come up with some solution.

  • 2B Bobby Bugbee is batting .277 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI in his time thus far at AAA Porterville.
  • 1B Bill Kennedy is up to 17 home runs on the season at Porterville.
  • In his bid to get a call back up to the big club, Theodore Walden has a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings at Porterville.
  • AA Kernal City 1B Dave Israel leads all of our minor leaguers with 20 home runs on the season. The 23-year-old is also batting .341. He doesn’t have great potential though, so not sure what kind of player he will turn out to be.
  • 1st Round Draft Pick Cy Nugent is 0-1 with a 0.67 ERA at Rookie Level Coconut Bay, in 13.1 innings pitched. Scouting Director Bill White says he is possibly ready for Class A.

  • Jim Steadman of Baltimore has overtaken Mike Seawright for the highest batting average in the HL. Steadman is at .384 while Seawright is at .383.
  • Scott Ingram of Kansas City is now the overall leader in Batting Average thanks to his .387 average.
  • Seawright continues to lead in Home Runs and RBI though. His 29 homers are 8 more than Pete Grier, who has the second most in The Big Leagues. Seawright’s 94 RBI is 19 more than Grier, also the second most in TBL.
  • Barry Sandford of the Chicago Stars leads TBL in Stolen Bases with 49 thus far.
  • Layne Hughes of the Pittsburgh Summits leads all pitchers in Wins with 14.
  • Charlie Thomas of the St. Louis Saints leads TBL in Saves with 27 thus far.
  • The Baltimore Baybirds acquired RP Barron Moore and 24-year-old minor league CF Jim Cusack from the Milwaukee Chiefs in return for 24-yaer-old minor league RHP Frank Williams and 17-year-old minor league RHP Dan Lambert. Moore is 3-1 with a 3.65 ERA on the season.
  • SP Charlie Fitch of the Montreal Royales won the 100th game of his career July 8th against the New York Mammoths.
  • The Seattle Rainiers traded SP Sam Bennett to the New York Mammoths in return for 24-year-old minor league LHP Haruhisa Kitajima. Bennett is 8-6 with a 3.22 ERA on the year.
  • Baltimore’s Emery Beals shut out the New York Mammoths July 12th, 4-0. Beals is 12-4 with a 2.21 ERA.
  • Chicago Stars CF Barry Sandford had his 20 game hitting streak snapped on July 12th by the Milwaukee Chiefs.
  • Minnesota Millers RF Merv Martin was named Hickory League Player of the Week on the shoulders of his .424 average, 1 home run, and 12 RBI performance.
  • Dallas Texans LF Danny Roncal earned the Ash League Player of the Week honors after his .611 batting average, 1 home run, and 7 RBI week.
