Denver Bears (40-31 .563 0.5 GB in 2nd place in the PCL East) at
Portland Beavers (48-25 .658 1.5 GA in 1st place in the PCL West)

DEN: Norm Ginsburg (36-R 4-3 6.34) vs. POR: Frank Flores (25-R 12-3 1.84) PCLCS MVP

Ginsburg gave up 5 runs in 5 IP last time out and lost for the 1st time in a month. We faced him once last year when he was a rookie and we scored 6 runs in 2.2 innings, but we lost the game. I'd take that today! I want some runs and if we cannot score them against this bum, We are going to have to resort to drastic measures.... What those would be, I have no idea... But I cannot just continue to sit on my hands and watch my batters ground out to 2nd all day long...

Flores has won 3 in a row and given up a total of 3 runs (2 earned). He is making a strong case to be our first pitcher ever named to the All-Star Game. He is trying to become the 1st 13 game winner in the Majors and no one else has more than 10 wins. He is still 2nd in the PCL in ERA, but the fellow ahead of him, Hal Kestler of Dallas, has not pitched in a month and is expected to be out two more weeks.

Top of the Second:
Eric Daniels lines a hit to left center. Johnnie Graham grounds a hit up the middle and Daniels heads for 3rd, but gets caught in a run down and is out! 8-5-4-6! Harry Garcia lines out to 1st and Glenn Snowden taps the bag with his toe to double off Graham!

Bottom of the Second:
With 1 out, Kim Springer hits a home run to left! 1 to 0, Beavers!

Through six innings, we still only have the one run off this bum....

Top of the Seventh:

Eric Daniels swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds a hit to center. The Bullpen is up. Daniels steals 2nd. Johnnie Graham grounds a hit to center and Daniels scores without a throw... Tie Game: 1 to 1. Harry Garcia lines a hit to center... Call to the Bullpen: Leonardo Sanchez (25-R). Jack Hinckley is in to play center in a double switch. Carroll Morse bunts the runners up. With the infield in, Mike Holguin grounds out to 2nd and the runners hold. 2 down. P Norm Ginsburg is allowed to hit and if a run scores, I am going to go ballistic, so be prepared to duck.... He strikes out!

Bottom of the Eighth:
Enrique Ramos bloops a hit to left. Glenn Snowden grounds into a force at 2nd, 1-6. Tim Higbee lines a hit to right. Jeff Galka gets beaned to load the bases up with 1 out. A wild pitch scores Snowden! 2 to 1, Beavers! Kim Springer strikes out... PH Oscar Trejo (31-R) is walked intentionally. And then they make a pitching change. New Pitcher: Danny Slater (27-R), who pitched 3 scoreless innings on Friday. Jack Hinckley pops out to center...

Top of the Ninth:
New Pitcher: Denny Jennissen (30-R), who threw 5 innings on Friday, so is not fresh as a daisy, but no one is, except Bill Woodward (23-R), who is NOT going to close a game out for us, if we can help it. 4-5-6 up for them. Eric Daniels swings at a 3-2 pitch and misses! Johnnie Graham grounds out to short. Harry Garcia grounds out to 1st, unassisted, and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Beavers!

Won - 2 to 1

10 straight games with 3 or fewer runs in the first 9 innings...
We are 7-3 in those games, believe it or not.
We played 54 innings in this series, which is enough for 6 games.
But we only scored 11 runs.
Denver, the #1 offense in the League, by far, scored only 9!

We had 8 hits and made 1 error
Denver had 7 hits (all singles) and made 2 errors

Frank Flores went 6+ innings, allowed 1 run, 7 hits, no walks and struck out 2.
RHP Leonardo Sanchez (W 2-0) pitched 2 perfect innings and struck out 2.
RHP Denny Jennissen (SV 2) pitched a perfect 9th with 1 strikeout.

Norm Ginsburg (L 4-4) went 7.2 innings, gave us 2 runs, 8 hits, 1 home run, 4 walks, 1 HBP and struck out 4. He threw a WP. 130 pitches.
