We are back home for the shortest scheduled home stand in history, a mere 2 games with the Hollywood Stars before heading back out on the road for the weekend. Will we ever get to play any weekend games at home? The Stars, who started the season 7-0, have lost 4 of their last 6, including 2 of 3 in San Francisco over the weekend. They lead the PCL in scoring with 5.69 runs per game (Portland is #15 with 3.15). They are hitting .300 as a team... We are hitting .235. Jack Hinckley swings at the first pitch and grounds a hit up the middle. A wild pitch sends him to 2nd. Bill Wilson flies out to center and Hinckley tags up and beats the throw to 3rd. Bottom of the Fifth:
With 1 out, Melvin Rodarte singles to right and goes to 2nd when Bud Lisk overruns the ball for an error. With 2 outs, Fernando Mexicano doubles to left and Rodarte scores! 4 to 2, Beavers! Juan Rojas lines a hit to right center, but Mexicano stops at 3rd. Dave Risinger grounds out to short.

Top of the Seventh:
Bobby Deaton grounds a hit to center. We get the Bullpen up. Larry Church hits a 435 foot home run to center... Tie game: 4 to 4. Juan Suazo grounds a hit past the shortstop. Bud Lisk leads off with a line drive single to center. Jose Naranjo strikes out. A passed ball sends Lisk into scoring position.... That is 3 already this season for C Craig Petitto.... We intentionally walk Steve Bone. Bobby Deaton swings at a 3-2 pitch and doubles down the right field line and both runners score and Deaton ends up on 3rd... 6 to 4, Stars. Jerry Hatcher takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... They send in a pinch-hitter and we are about to make a pitching change when I notice the pinch-hitter is a lefty: Fred Rambo (24-L). No pitching change. Rambo swings at a 3-2 pitch and misses!

Top of the Eleventh:
New Pitcher: Bobby Weatherford (30-R). Top of their order is up. Gus McCollum grounds one to 1st, but Glenn Snowden boots it... McCollum tries to steal, but Glenn Oswell throws him out! The next two batters make outs!

Bottom of the Eleventh:
With 1 out, PH Shannon Kuchta (23-R) singles to left and takes 2nd when Jose Naranjo muffs the scoop! Melvin Rodarte strikes out... They walk Glenn Snowden intentionally. Fernando Mexicano strikes out...

Jerry Suazo leads off with a grounder to right for a hit. Jerry Hatcher bunts him to 2nd. Jim Owens takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Gus McCollum flies out to center and Suazo tags up and moves to 3rd. 2 outs. Bud Lisk pops out to 1st!

With 1 out, Shannon Kuchta draws a 4 pitch walk. PH Doug Dietz (30-L) grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and Kuchta moves to 2nd. 2 outs. They walk Glenn Snowden intentionally again, but Fernando Mexicano is not facing a lefty this time! He strikes out all the same, though....

New Pitcher: Bud Dennis (34-L). He has been moved into their rotation, but has yet to start a game. In 10 innings of relief this season, he has allowed 1 hit... With 2 outs, Glenn Oswell reaches on a 2 base throwing error by P Dennis, but Don Neumann grounds out to short.

Jerry Suazo and Jerry Hatcher both strike out!! Jim Owens lines a hit to center and then steals 2nd. Gus McCollum, swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines a hit to left and Owens scores... 7 to 6, Stars.
