The Saenger Theatre was a beautiful theatre... a really luxurious place to enjoy a movie... you would buy a ticket, then walk on the gleaming marble floors with statues and art pieces along the way to the concessions stand... and then to your seats... walking on deep, lush carpet... and sitting a soft, comfortable chair... it was pure luxury... built in 1927... originally seated 4000 people.

Overhead inside the theatre, stars were twinkling on the ceiling... luxurious drapes hung all around... the statues were works of art on the sides of the theatre.

Here is the only photo I could find of the old theatre... it's has been renovated and restored since Katrina.

History (thanks to Wikipedia)
When The Saenger opened on January 19, 1927, it was the sixty-first Saenger theatre of a chain founded by the Saenger brothers, Julian and Abel of New Orleans. The Saengers were pharmacists when they purchased their first theater in Shreveport in 1911. They eventually owned 320 theaters located throughout the South, Costa Rica, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama and Puerto Rico.
