Walkers news: August 18 -- Indianapolis 3, St. Louis 1

Record: 71-47, 1st, 8 GA Springfield
Joe McCarthy's three-run home run off St. Louis starting pitcher Derek Gordon in the top of the fifth inning wiped out a 1-0 deficit and helped carry Indianapolis to a 3-1 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
Kole Cottam had led off the inning with a double but was thrown out at third on a sacrifice bunt attempt by pitcher Luke Weaver.
Royce Lewis, however, followed with a double which put runners at second and third.
McCarthy then smacked a 3-2 pitch 357 feet over the right-field wall to put the Racers in front 3-1.
It also ended the scoring for the day.
Weaver (6-2) worked five innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out five and walked none.
Joey Lucchesi took care of the sixth inning.
Patrick Corbin handled the seventh and eighth.
The ninth belonged to Jake Reed, who with a 1-2-3 inning earned his 24th save.
