St Louis Cardinals SP Bob Gibson collects win #200 in a complete game 6-0 win over the Giants. The 35 year old is now 10-2 with a 1.72 ERA in 13 starts. Last year, Gibson was a league leader in wins with a 23-7 record, 3.12 ERA in 34 starts. Gibson started his MLB career in 1959 with the Cardinals, he lead the MLB in 1968 with a incredible 1.12 ERA in 304 IPs. Gibson won the NL Cy Young in 1968 and 1970, as well he is a 7 time All Star, 1968 NL MVP, 6 time Gold Glover and a 2 time World Series MVP. The Atlanta Braves have released SP Hoyt Wilhelm. The 48 year old is 0-0 with 1 save, a 1.80 ERA in 6 games. Last year, Wilhelm was 6-5 with 13 saves, a 3.40 ERA in 53 games for the Braves and Cubs. Wilhelm led the league in 1952 and 1953 for games, with ERA in 1959 with a 2.19 and games finished with 39 in 1953. Wilhelm is a 5 time All Star. The knuckle-baller only had one significant injury over his career and ironically it was a pitching machine that injured his hand during bunting practice.

Its looks like it will be the end of the line for SP Dick Ellsworth as the Milwaukee Brewers released him. The 31 year old is 0-0 with 1 save, a 3.00 ERA in 10 games. Last year, Ellsworth was 3-3 with 3 saves, a 3.79 ERA in 43 games including 1 start. It has been suggested that nagging elbow injuries or various other ailments, but Ellsworth was no where near the pitcher he was in early to mid 1960's when he was routinely throwing over 200 innings. For his career, Ellsworth is 115-136 with 6 saves, a 3.70 ERA in 406 games including 310 starts. Ellsworth was 22-10 with a 2.11 ERA in 1963 with the Cubs in 37 starts.
