Major Transactions This Week

The St Louis Cardinals have traded RP Fred Norman and LF Leron Lee to the San Diego Padres in exchange for SP Al Santorini. The 28 year old Norman was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 4 games this season for the Cardinals. Norman has been used as an reliever to this point of his career, he is hoping for an opportunity to start for the Padres. The 23 year old Lee was hitting .267 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs in 31 games for the Cardinals. The 23 year old Santorini was 0-3 with a 5.22 ERA in 11 games including 3 starts for the Padres.

The Philadelphia Phillies have traded 2B Tony Taylor to the Detroit Tigers for a couple of minor leaguers. The 35 year old Taylor is hitting .324 with 2 HRs and 14 RBIs in 38 games for the Phillies. The 1960 NL All Star hit a Grand Slam this season on April 24th. The Cuban born Taylor was a fan favorite in Philadelphia. As a rookie with the Cubs, Taylor worked closely with Ernie Banks who helped Taylor stay patient and loose during a tough rookie season. The Phillies GM felt that Taylor was expendable as they were looking for some pitching talent (Ironically neither player made a MLB appearance)
