The Cubs loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the second but Wicker grounded to short to end the inning.
Wicker was much better on the mound as he had a no-hitter through three innings.

Wagner led off the top of the fourth with a single to end the no-hitter and extend his hitting streak to twelve games. The Pirates would go on to load the bases with two out. Chance then couldn't hang on to a throw from Steinfeldt on a Nealon grounder and the Pirates took the lead. Evers booted a Willis grounder allowing Leach to score. Wicker finally ended the frame by striking out Gibson.
Tinker put the Cubs on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single.
The Cubs committed their fourth error of the game in the top of the fifth and Wagner made them pay with an RBI single.
After six: Pittsburgh 3 Chicago 1.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Cubs got runners at first and second but pinch hitter Solly Hofman struck out to end the game.
Final score: Pittsburgh 3 Chicago 1.
